A familiar favorite — the cat you're most likely to find. You had about a 1-in-3 chance of drawing Turkish Van as The Free Spirit — one of 5 cats you could have become.

You travel light. Not just literally. Your needs are simple, and your contentment doesn't depend on much. You don't have to be in a relationship, you don't have to live in the right city, you don't have to be doing the impressive thing. The freedom you have is the freedom you built by wanting less than other people want. It looks like luck. It isn't.

Why a Turkish Van?

A large, swimming-loving cat from the Lake Van region of eastern Turkey. Turkish Vans have unusual coats that are mostly white with colored markings on the head and tail, and they're one of the few cat breeds that genuinely enjoy water. They've been documented swimming in lakes and pools for fun.

Did you know

Turkish Vans are sometimes called "the swimming cat" in their native region. Local lore holds that the breed descended from cats that escaped Noah's Ark when it landed on Mount Ararat (which overlooks Lake Van), and that the cats then swam to shore.
