Bombay

Domestic breed · No. 76 / 89

Common · tier 1 of 4

A familiar favorite — the cat you're most likely to find. You had about a 1-in-3 chance of drawing Bombay as The Night Owl — one of 4 cats you could have become.

The world makes more sense to you after dark. You do your best thinking past 11 p.m. Your friends know not to text you before noon unless something is on fire. You like quiet streets, lamplight, the way music sounds louder in headphones at night. Mornings happen to you. Evenings are yours.

Why a Bombay?

A breed bred specifically to look like a miniature black panther. Bombays have sleek jet-black coats, copper-gold eyes, and athletic builds, paired with surprisingly social personalities. They love being near their humans, often climbing into laps or beds without invitation, especially in the evening hours.

Did you know

The Bombay was created in the 1950s by an Ohio breeder named Nikki Horner, who wanted to develop a domestic cat that resembled the black panthers (melanistic leopards) she had seen at the zoo. The breed was officially recognized in 1976.
