Why a African Golden Cat?
A medium-sized wild cat found in the rainforests of central and west Africa. African Golden Cats are stocky, solitary, and extraordinarily elusive. They were one of the last wild cats to be photographed alive, with the first verified images taken only in the 2010s. Their coats range from rich gold to gray to nearly black, and they remain one of the least-studied cats in the world.
Did you know
African Golden Cats are considered sacred in some cultures of central Africa. Among the Baka people, they are believed to bring good fortune to hunters, and parts of their pelts have historically been used in important rituals. The species is now legally protected.
